As federal and state governments add new governance laws and regulatory requirements, many firms and their clients are struggling to effectively manage their data responsibilities. Office 365 users have access to tools like data loss prevention settings and information rights management, yet few know how to use them.
This session will cover some practical best practices to help you meet your compliance requirements and to make your data more secure including: a) Key terms, processes, and tools associated with Data Loss Prevention; b) Data governance legislation and requirements; and c) Tools available in suites like Office 365 and GSuite, as well as outside applications that can help you better manage and control your risks.
Upon completing this session, attendees should be able to perform the following tasks:
1) Define key terms like information rights management (IRM), group policy management, mobile device management, unified threat management systems, intrusion detection systems, and firewalls
2) List at least two critical compliance laws which may apply to a firm and its clients, even though the firm may not have physical operations in the regulator’s jurisdiction
3) List the three areas where data needs protection – data in transit over a network, data at rest on a device, and data in use by an application – and give examples of a few approaches used to mitigate the related risks
